April 8, 2013 By Ligia

I just recently had a birthday and  an email account full of birthday freebies. I usually don’t really look forward to my birthday, but with all these freebies I was actually happy to see March roll around!  So here is my birthday club list.

Baskin Robbins-Birthday Club free 2.5 oz ice cream scoop

Panera– you need to have a Panera Rewards card (free) and they load a surprise for your birthday. It’s usually a pastry.

Rubio’s– free meal up to $7

Mimi’s– Free birthday meal up to $10

Black Angus-buy one get one free meal

Benihana’s– $30 gift certificate

Starbucks– also need to have a rewards card, you get a free drink your choice.

Ann Taylor Loft birthday $15 coupon-need to be a card member

Kohl’s $10 birthday coupon-need to be a card member

Local establishments too:

Here is a wonderful list of other restaurants and retail stores:

Thanks to Hey It’s Free! and here’s another great list provided by Printable Coupon Spot

I didn’t end up using all of my birthday freebies, but I did get a wonderful pastry at Panera, a free coffee at Starbucks, a free birthday meal at Shirasoni and a full shopping day at Kohl’s, JcPenny’s and Ann Taylor Loft.

I love buying deals on Living Social. I have purchased many great deals in the past and now I’ve snatched up another sweet deal using this:

Here are some ideas:

  • Field trips
  • Spa treatments
  • Dining out
  • Getaways
  • Summer camps

My favorite is getting spa treatments and dining out. I also purchased camps, products, and even Starbucks!

What did I get this time:

A field trip to Hiller Aviation Museum in the Bay Area.

I’m not sure how long it was last so hurry over!

Physical Fitness Tests

March 1, 2013 By Ligia

I’ve been “testing” my family’s fitness level using some online tools that I’ve found. Having worked in the public school, I know that each year fourth and seventh graders take the President’s Fitness Test. I have a 4th and 7th grader this year so I decided to figure out what tests we could do at home and how we could challenge ourselves. Here are some links to these websites that helped me design my own President’s Fitness Test.

National Fitness Requirements

Fitness Test

The 1-Mile Walking Test

ExRx Fitness Testing

Basically, we are doing push-ups, sit-ups, and the 1 mile. We did a baseline and now I’ve challenged them to do one more each time they do their push-ups and sit-ups until they get to their goal. Once that becomes easy, they can continue adding on. I did create a simple spreadsheet to keep track of our starting place and our progress.
