Simplify & Plan 2014: Create a Cleaning Bin in Each Bathroom

January 3, 2014 By Ligia

Still plugging away at those Seven “End of the Year Tasks”. Today I can cross off Create a Cleaning Bin in Each Bathroom. I already had these made so instead what I did was restock and purge.  It is very helpful to have a bin in each bathroom because it cuts down on the running around.

Here is what is in my tub:

Clear Power for mirrors

All Purpose Cleaner

Toilet Cleaner

Floor Cleaner

Sponges

Cut up t-shirt squares (I cut up my husbands old white t-shirts and they work beautifully for mirrors and clean ups)

Pieces of old towels

brush

wipes

and also a bowl (not pictured) for water

I have been using Melaluca forever. However, I’ve just recently ended my membership so when all my stock pile is gone I will be looking for new alternatives. Not sure if I’ll make my own cleaners or look for eco-friendly in the store.

So next up on the Tasks????

The dreaded

Simplify & Plan 2014: Purge Your Existing Paperwork

January 1, 2014 By Ligia

I am plugging along on my quest to complete the Seven “End of the Year” Tasks to Simplify My Life.

1.Unsubscribe from Unnecessary Emails

2. Put Your Home Phone Number on National No Call List (did previously)

3. Cut down on Junk Mail by Opting Out.

I am still collecting junk mail in my manilla envelope so that I only have to sit down once to make the opt out phone calls. So I am going to tackle #4 on my path to simplifying my life which is

4. Purging Existing Paperwork.

This is my folder of unfiled paper work. Its probably 3-4 months worth.

IMG_2398So instead of trying to file all of it, I am going to decide right now if I  need to recycle, toss, shred or file. These baskets are marked “shred” or “recycle”. If I need to file it I’ll put it away in the file drawers. I found an article by Suze Orman Overhaul Your Files and Finances how long to keep documents.IMG_2399So here goes, hopefully I can cross this off my list today.

Simplify & Plan 2014: Simplify My Mailbox

December 31, 2013 By Ligia

Thirty-eight. That is how many Unsubscribe emails I sent! Wow! I can already see my inbox is less cluttered.

Now on to step 2: Simplify my mailbox

My mail is out of control. I get so much junk mail! In the next few days I am going to do as suggested in
Seven “End of the Year” Tasks to Simplify Your Life which is to pile up all my junk mail and start calling to opt out. I know I need to do that. I have stacks of unopened mail that is just JUNK.

The hard part of this process is that a lot of this “junk” mail is causes asking for donations: Meals on Wheels, Veterans, Habitat for Humanity, etc. I probably gave to them in the past and we’ve continued to get solicitations. Unfortunately, I can’t give to every cause that asks. So what to do? I am going to be calling the toll free number and asking to be removed from their mailing list. I will ask that they only send  me one end of the year request.

I found a manilla envelope and I am putting all the mail I get this week that is “junk” and doing the same with that.

Happy New Year!
