My Family Command Center Board

January 28, 2015 By Ligia

I decided up-grade my family command center board. I found some old magazine clippings that I had 0f my “ideal” command center board. I love my desk where I do my quiet time, calendar, filing, mail etc but my board has turned into a picture collage so I needed something more useful. I love my pictures, I actually pray over each person in the collage, but I also need more functionality. So here is my board/desk before:

Top: (Before) Lots of pictures no real place for my schedule and calendar which is what a Command Center should be more of.

New command center: Now i have my calendar and my cleaning schedules, a place to write what is going on in the week and space of misc notes I need to tack up. (That bright green is a note reminding me that a give away truck to driving past my house so take out some bags of clothes).

Here is an article called ” Set up a Command Center on one of my favorite sites called Organized Home.

Here is another one from Good Housekeeping Magazine.

Homeschool Weekly: I Did the Unthinkable

January 23, 2015 By Ligia

I did the unthinkable…….

I took a day off to clean!

My daughter’s room looked like a tornado hit, my son’s room was littered with millions of little soldiers, and I needed to clean the bathroom, playroom etc. So I took a day off (gasp) to clean.

I told my kids that today was a cleaning day. My daughter does better doing a big day of cleaning. She does a really good job! She had incentive since she is getting a new Loft bed. My son gripped the whole time but we got so many old toys out of the playroom and his room.

One thing that really helps us out when we do these big clean ups, is these bins:

IMG_4318We got them from The Fly Lady Shop. I have used laundry baskets with paper labels too.

I put them outside their doors and we chuck things into the bins. I love them.

I got a chance to do some of own cleaning, but not as much since I had to help my son (he’s not so motivated).

I think I need to do this every other month and just plan them into our schedule. Hey this is Home Economics! I can still count it as a day of school! Hurray!

Home Storage Solutions 52 Week Challenge: Week 2 Cabinets & Drawers

January 19, 2015 By Ligia

This past week the Home Storage Solutions Challenge focused on Cabinets & Drawer Organization. To be honest, I did not spend as much time as I probably could and should have. I did NOT go through  my Tupperware/storage containers and I did NOT tackle my Island (baking stuff) like I should have. I guess that felt overwhelming. But I am putting a PIN in that idea and tackling it over our winter break coming in February.

So what did I do?

I did clean out some drawers, condensed my ziploc baggie area, and got rid of some trinkets and things that I will never use. I also got rid of some old dish towels, oven gloves, and stray lids.  So I did do somethings.

I did still have plans to buys some Mesh Expandable Cabinet Shelves for my dishes, a Mesh Pot & Lid Organizer, and some OXO Good Grips Pop Containers for this weeks challenge which is food storage areas (i.e., Pantry)
