Homeschool Curriculum Sites

March 5, 2013 By Ligia

It’s that time of the year again when I start hunting for next year’s homeschool curriculum. It is early to start but I always know what I am going to do the following year. So I want to share some of the awesome sites that I use to save money on my homeschool curriculum.

Homeschool Classifieds– I’ve shared about this site before and what I like about this site is the ease. I can search through the site, or post things I want,or sell things I will no longer use.

Christian Book Distributors– Even though this is a Christian book site it carries alot of the non-Christian curriculum like Teaching Textbooks, Explode the Code and more. Their prices are reasonable. During certain months they will have free shipping.

Hearts at Home– This site also is a Christian site but it has many of the popular curriculum at a great price. Apologia is 30% off. That is a great deal.

CurrClick– I have purchased alot of curriculum from this site. What makes it affordable is that its all downloadable. If you buy a book, lets say, you don’t get an actual book but a link to download. They have a lot of freebies and now they offer classes.

eBay– I have bought ALOT of curriculum on eBay. I think this is one of the best sites to get curriculum for less. I usually create a search and save it so that I get emails when the items I am looking for comes on the site. I have purchased all my Teaching Textbook curriculum on eBay and some of my books for literature.

Amazon– I have found good prices on books on Amazon. I usually have a wish list going of books I am interested in for school and pleasure. The wish list is created on Amazon.  I check it often and see what has dropped in price. I have also found items that I would never expect to find like Learning Language Arts through Literature. Last year I found the teacher’s manual I needed for around $5. I would have paid so much more on their website. In fact, even though I’ve used LLATL for two years I have never bought the curriculum on their site. I have bought it on Amazon or eBay.

Another way to get curriculum for cheap or even free is to have a curriculum swap. My homeschool group holds one annually. We just meet at a local park and set up our own tables and display our curriculum. I have found great deals this way too.

Physical Fitness Tests

March 1, 2013 By Ligia

I’ve been “testing” my family’s fitness level using some online tools that I’ve found. Having worked in the public school, I know that each year fourth and seventh graders take the President’s Fitness Test. I have a 4th and 7th grader this year so I decided to figure out what tests we could do at home and how we could challenge ourselves. Here are some links to these websites that helped me design my own President’s Fitness Test.

National Fitness Requirements

Fitness Test

The 1-Mile Walking Test

ExRx Fitness Testing

Basically, we are doing push-ups, sit-ups, and the 1 mile. We did a baseline and now I’ve challenged them to do one more each time they do their push-ups and sit-ups until they get to their goal. Once that becomes easy, they can continue adding on. I did create a simple spreadsheet to keep track of our starting place and our progress.

Just wanted to share this website. It has a lot of very great tips and links. Worth looking at.
