Now Thyroid Disease?

January 13, 2017 By Ligia

On top of all the stuff I have to deal with, I have to deal with my own stinking issues……

Thyroid disease sucks.

Just wanna say it.

Here is a link to a great blog about Thyroid disease.

The Invisible Hypothyroidism

I also just added myself to a Facebook group:

Underachieve Thyroid Hypothyroidism Support Group

I am not new to Thyroid thing, but I don’t know that I have really REALLY paid much attention to it.  Now, as I am struggling with symptoms that seem to be thyroid related, I am doing some research about optimal “numbers” for the many tests for Hypothyroidism. I am frustrated because I feel like my doctor is not listening. I am going to look for an endocrinologist.

Here is a list of symptoms associated with Hypothyroid:

  • Fatigue
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Constipation
  • Dry skin
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Cravings for sugar and carbohydrates
  • Puffy face
  • Muscle weakness
  • Elevated blood cholesterol level
  • Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
  • Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
  • Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
  • Thinning hair
  • Slowed heart rate
  • Depression
  • Impaired memory (“Brain fog”)

The bolded ones are ones I am experiencing. I have been dealing with some of the others but not in great amounts. For instance, I have always lost tons of hair when I am combing it etc, but lately I feel like I am losing more. Last year, I started having bleeding before my period was to start. I didn’t even think that either one of these were thyroid related.

Here is the link to another article with explains a lot about the six key tests:

Hypothyroid Testing: What you Need to Know and Ask For.

I hope that I can share better news soon.

Book Review: Say Good-bye to Survival Mode

May 25, 2015 By Ligia

A few weeks ago this book Say Goodbye to Survival Modewas for 99 cents on Amazon so I bought it on my Kindle. I have followed Crystal Paine’s website Money Saving Mom for a while now, in fact she is one of my picks for Money Saving Roll. I wanted to buy her book when it first came out but I didn’t. I wish I had. I read it in 2 days. I personally do not like reading on the Kindle. I missed being able to highlight, mark up, and dog ear pages. It was quite distressing not being able to go back to a “certain spot”. Regardless, I read the book cover to cover and spent some great deal of time thinking about the areas of my life that are “out of control” In the introduction she asks are you “Frazzled, Tired, and Behind?” Uh, yeah, I am a Busy Mom. In her book she gives 9 simple strategies to stress less, sleep more, and restore your passion for life. So I took these to heart, and I ‘ve been working on most of these ever since.

Because of this book, I have embarked on a journey to declutter my day, my schedule, my life, and my house. I am working on setting goals, setting up a manageable cleaning schedule, getting back in shape. I am setting small manageable goals for the areas of my life that matter most: Personal, Homemaking, Family, Business, and Finances.

Because of this book, I realized that I am trying to tackle way to much. Even in this blog I found that I was trying to “blog” about way to many things. I am going to focus on the things that really impact my daily life the most: My children (which includes homeschooling) our various medical conditions (Celiac disease, Diabetes, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADD, and now to add to the fun Lactose Intolerance) and my home life (homemaking etc). I am passionate about all these things and am constantly learning more and more about how to better serve my God by taking care of my family and my self.

So I am excited. And thankful.

I hope you have time to read this book.

Knock, Knock

February 11, 2014 By Ligia

” How come opportunity knocks once, but temptation beats at my door everyday?”

“Four things come not back: the spoken word; the speeding arrow; time past; the neglected opportunity”

This was taken from my daily devotion from The Finishing Touch: Becoming God’s Masterpiece by Chuck Swindoll.

This spoke to me today and I sat at my desk asking myself “what opportunity am I missing?”

My first thought was this blog.

I have been given this opportunity to share my two-cents on many topics that affect my life: diabetes, homeschooling, celiac disease, dyslexia, ADD, gluten-free living, and so much more. I am not an expert on any of these subjects but I can share my life experience and what I’ve learned.  Why is this blog important to me? From the beginning when I started this blog a year ago, my goal was to share about these subjects in order to help someone else if possible.  I have been able to help so many people in my everyday life who are starting their gluten-free journey or their homeschool journey or their diabetes journey. Why not try to share my knowledge with people outside of my everyday life?

My problem is I’m trying to keep up with Joneses of blogging. I compare myself with those wonderful blogs I read every day and I feel like I will never measure up, so maybe, subconsciously, I give up. I’ve decided that this opportunity is mine to take now, and I will do what I need to do today and not worry about everyone else.

So what if I can’t blog 5 days a week? So what if I can’t get all this great material and freebies? I am going to blog about what I am passionate about.

So one of things I like to blog about is food. Gluten free food. So I really want to share more recipes and ideas on that.

I have a child starting high school and a child newly identified with dyslexia. I am trying to lose some weight and get fit. These are all topics that I want to blog about.

So my goal is to blog once a week about gluten free living and once a week about another topic. That’s it.

I love this blog, don’t know if I will be able to do these forever. I need to take the opportunity now.

God bless,

Ligia
